Action Location: Santa Monica, California

Action Leaders: Amy Oliveira

Action Date: Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Statement: I just got engaged!!! Along with my new title of "fiancee," I have developed a deep concern for the issue of marriage equality. I am truly disturbed by the discrimination same-sex couples face. I cringe at the prospect of enjoying the rights and respect that marriage will bring to my relationship while those rights are being threatened for thousands of couples across California. Now is the time for all fair-minded people to stand up for equality. I am delighted to be an action leader for Seven Straight Nights, and I hope you will join me at the event.

When it comes down to it – all that really matters is love. Every committed couple in love deserves the right to celebrate their commitment and devotion in front of their families and friends. I am speaking out today because I believe that the equal rights movement is the most important civil rights struggle of our generation. Please stand up with me this September and fight for our families’, friends’, co-workers’, and neighbors’ right to love and freely choose who they want to spend the rest of their lives with.
