Statement: It’s exciting to take a stand for something you believe in, and right now is a particularly exciting time to take a stand for equality. By participating in Seven Straight Nights, straight Americans can shine a light on injustice, bring hope to their LGBT friends and neighbors, and send a clear message that this civil rights issue is important to us all. As a straight equality advocate, I sometimes hear people say, "You don’t have anything to gain from this," but I think, as Americans, we all have something to gain from affirming the importance of civil rights. The reality of marriage equality in California has brought hope to a lot of people. Being able to be part of that hope is extremely inspiring to me as a minister and as an American.
